Their story
Argonaut is a California brandy brand that takes its name and look from the Gold Rush prospectors who came west in 1849. It launched in 2017, first in San Francisco, as a premium take on a spirit with deep roots in the state.
Argonaut is owned by E. & J. Gallo. The lineup includes Speculator, Fat Thumb, a higher-proof Saloon Strength and The Claim, a blend of rare older stocks.
How it's made
Pot-distilled brandy is made at McCall Distillery in Sanger, California, and column-distilled brandy comes from Gallo's distillery in Fresno. Lots from both are blended for current releases, while others are set aside to age for future blends.
We see a very bright outlook for premium California brandy overall.
