Their story
Bayab is a gin from Spearhead Spirits, a company started by Chris Frederick and Damola Timeyin, two friends who met at university and wanted to put African spirits on bar shelves around the world.
The pair spent about three years researching and testing before launching Bayab alongside a vodka called Vusa. The gin is made in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and it won a gold medal at the San Francisco Wine and Spirits Competition in 2022.
How it's made
Bayab is distilled in copper stills in KwaZulu-Natal from locally grown grain and blended with local water. Baobab fruit leads the botanicals, joined by African juniper, coriander, citrus peel, and other botanicals such as rooibos.

Why we carry them
We like how the baobab gives Bayab a soft, tart citrus note. Try it in a simple gin and tonic with an orange slice.
