Their story

Bruichladdich sits on the shore of Loch Indaal on the Rinns of Islay. The Harvey brothers built it in 1881, and over the next century it closed and reopened several times, finally falling silent in 1994.

In December 2000 a group of private investors led by Mark Reynier bought the distillery and brought it back to life in 2001, hiring veteran Islay distiller Jim McEwan. The revived distillery became known for unpeated Bruichladdich, heavily peated Port Charlotte, the extremely peated Octomore, and The Botanist gin.

Remy Cointreau acquired Bruichladdich in 2012 and still owns it.

How it's made

The distillery uses only Scottish barley, some of it grown on Islay since 2004, and identifies farms and fields on its packaging where it can. Spirit is distilled on Islay and aged in a wide range of casks.

Why we carry them

We like Bruichladdich for showing that Islay is not only about smoke. The Classic Laddie is a great place to start before working up to Octomore.
