Their story
Gabriele Buondonno and Valeria Sodano, both from Naples, bought the Casavecchia alla Piazza farm in Castellina in Chianti in 1988. The 20-hectare property has vineyards, olive trees, and woodland in the hills of Chianti Classico.
They began replanting the vineyards in 1992 and have farmed with a light touch ever since, working to disturb the natural setting as little as possible.
How it's made
About eight hectares of vines on clay and limestone are mostly Sangiovese, with a little Canaiolo, Colorino, Merlot, and Syrah, farmed with organic certification. Wines ferment with native yeasts in cement and steel, go through malolactic in small barrels, and are bottled by gravity.
Why we carry them
We like Buondonno for Chianti Classico that tastes fresh and honest. Bring it to any dinner with tomato sauce or grilled meat.
