Their story
Caledonia Spirits was started around 2011 by Todd Hardie, a lifelong beekeeper who wanted to make drinks from honey and draw attention to the role bees play in the landscape. He began in Hardwick, in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, and that year met Ryan Christiansen, who became head distiller and later president.
The company moved to Montpelier, where it runs a large distillery and, since 2019, a cocktail bar and shop. Its flagship is Barr Hill Gin.
How it's made
Barr Hill Gin is finished with raw Vermont honey, which carries floral notes from what the bees foraged. The vodka is distilled entirely from raw honey sourced within about 250 miles of the distillery, using around four pounds of honey per bottle.
Why we carry them
We love Barr Hill in a Bee's Knees, where the honey in the gin really shows. It is one of the most distinctive American gins we carry.
