Their story
Can Sumoi is a 400-hectare mountain estate in La Juncosa del Montmell, in the hills of the Baix Penedès, rising to about 600 meters. The Raventós family, best known for Raventós i Blanc, bought the property in 2017. Pepe Raventós, who began making natural wine in his own garage, leads the project.
Much of the work so far has been restoration. The family is replanting old vineyards and boundaries, letting some land return to forest and rebuilding farmhouses that date to the 1600s.
How it's made
About 20 hectares are planted, mainly to Parellada, called Montònega locally, and the red Sumoll. Grapes from local growers fill out the range, and the family pays them above typical local prices. In the cellar the focus is on low intervention, with pet-nats, skin-contact whites and fermentations in amphora and large foudre.
Why we carry them
We like Can Sumoi for easygoing, fresh bottles that still taste of a place. The Montònega pet-nat is a fun pick for a picnic.
