Castello Di Verduno
A family estate in a 16th-century castle making Barolo, Barbaresco and Pelaverga.

Their story
Castello di Verduno is centered on the castle in Verduno, a hilltop village in the Barolo zone, built in the early 1500s and once owned by the House of Savoy. The Burlotto family bought it in 1909.
When Gabriella Burlotto married Franco Bianco, a Barbaresco grower, the two families' vineyards came together. The estate now farms about five hectares in Verduno and five in Barbaresco.
The family also helped save Pelaverga Piccolo. By the early 1970s only a few vines of this local red grape were left, and the Burlottos replanted a vineyard with it.
How it's made
The estate farms without certification but follows organic practices. Wines ferment with wild yeast in open wooden vats with long skin contact, then age in large Austrian or Slavonian oak, bottled without fining or filtration and with little sulfur.
Our featured pick
Basadone Pelaverga (750ML)
$40.00
The Pelaverga grape is indigenous to Verduno. One of Castello di Verduno's most eagerly-anticipated releases each year — made in very limited quantities, it sells out almost as soon as the allocation.

Why we carry them
Their Pelaverga is a light, peppery red we love slightly chilled, and a rare taste of Verduno. The Barolo and Barbaresco are classic and patient.
