Their story

Clean Bottle was invented by David Mayer, an Ironman triathlete and Stanford graduate working out of his garage in Silicon Valley. As an athlete he went through water bottles constantly and was tired of the grime and mold that built up at the bottom. The fix came to him on a bike ride.

He launched the bottle in 2010 with a scrappy marketing push at that year's Tour de France, and in 2012 he pitched it on ABC's Shark Tank, where Mark Cuban made an offer.

In 2018 the parent company, Clean Designs, sold Clean Bottle to the private investment firm Split Peak LLC.

How it's made

The design is simple: the bottle unscrews at both the top and the bottom, so it can be opened all the way through and scrubbed clean. It is made as a reusable alternative to single-use bottles.

As an athlete, I was always using water bottles, but they were impossible to clean.

Why we carry them

We like a smart fix for a common annoyance. It is a handy pick for anyone who carries a bottle every day.
