Their story
Collet is the Champagne label of the Coopérative Générale des Vignerons, or COGEVI, in the village of Aÿ. The cooperative was formed in 1921 in the wake of the 1911 growers' revolts against fraud by some merchant houses, and the brand is named for its founder, Raoul Collet.
It is now the oldest working cooperative in Champagne. Since 1929 it has been based at the same corner of Aÿ, where visitors can tour the cellars and a museum devoted to the trades of Champagne.
How it's made
Member growers supply grapes from all 17 grand cru villages and nearly every premier cru. Chef de cave Sébastien Walasiak blends Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier, and every cuvée spends at least three years aging before release. The range runs from the Art Déco brut to vintage and prestige bottlings like Esprit Couture.
Why we carry them
Collet offers real grower depth at a fair price, and the Art Déco bottle looks great on the table. It is one of our favorite Champagnes to bring to a party.
