Their story
Cultivar is run by siblings Jody Harris and Gingy Harris Gable, whose grandparents, Virginia and Caspar Escher, bought a hillside property in Rutherford in 1958. The siblings planted vines there in 2000 and began making wine commercially in 2008, launching Cultivar alongside their estate label, Caspar Estate.
Cultivar has a strong San Francisco presence, with a wine bar and restaurant in the Marina since 2017, a second at Ghirardelli Square, and a newer spot in Sausalito.
How it's made
Cultivar draws fruit from several Napa vineyards through long relationships with growers, including a valley-floor site in Rutherford for its Sauvignon Blanc. The family's estate is farmed organically and is CCOF certified.
Why we carry them
We like Cultivar for its local roots and easy-drinking Napa wines. The Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc is a good everyday bottle.
