Their story
Dancing Crow is a family winery started in 2014 by Tony Cartlidge and his wife, Sarah Forni. Cartlidge was no newcomer: he co-founded Cartlidge & Browne back in 1980 and spent decades in California wine before turning his attention to Lake County.
Their vineyards sit near Kelseyville and along the western shore of Clear Lake, some as high as 1,400 feet. In 2022 the family bought a 45-acre property in Hopland, in neighboring Mendocino County, and began making a growing share of its wines there in 2023.
Today the wines reach shoppers through distributors, a wine club and dozens of California farmers markets.
How it's made
Most of the fruit comes from Lake County vineyards, including sites in the Big Valley District, and the Dancing Crow and Old Stake vineyards are certified sustainable. The flagship Sauvignon Blanc is fermented in stainless steel for freshness, while reds and small-lot whites are made at the Hopland winery, some aged on the lees in French oak.
there is nowhere in the U.S. that has the depth and breadth of volcanic soils as Lake County
Why we carry them
Dancing Crow is a good way to taste what Lake County can do, and the Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, easygoing bottle for weeknights.
