Their story
Deux Punx is the project of Dan Schaaf and Aaron Olson, two former punks who started making wine together in Napa in April 2008. Schaaf found his way to wine through skateboarding, and Olson played drums in a hardcore band.
Both still keep day jobs, Olson as a software engineer and Schaaf as co-owner of a water resources engineering firm. They make their wines at Punk Dog Wineries, a shared production space in Napa's River East neighborhood, and artist friends design the labels.
How it's made
Deux Punx works with California fruit and lets each site and vintage show. Every wine ferments spontaneously with native yeasts at ambient temperatures, ages in neutral oak and gets only minimal sulfur. The lineup runs from a light red and an old vine Zinfandel to a skin-contact Chardonnay and a piquette.
Why we carry them
Deux Punx makes the kind of easy, honest natural wine we like to open with friends. The light red is a great one to chill.
