Their story
Youngwon Lee is a Korean American brewer who came back to the United States in 2017 and got to work on Dokkaebier soon after. He saw a gap between Asian food culture and craft beer and set out to fill it from Oakland.
The name comes from dokkaebi, mischievous creatures from Korean folklore known for their love of good food and drink. That playful spirit runs through the beers, from a kimchi sour that won silver at the 2023 World Beer Cup to a witbier with water celery inspired by the film Minari. Dokkaebier also shares its space with Hella Coastal, an Oakland brewery that brews there.
How it's made
Dokkaebier builds recipes around Korean and other Asian ingredients, such as gochugaru chili, ginger, omija berries, green peppercorn, and bamboo. These go into familiar craft styles like sours and witbiers.

've fostered the good energy of dokkaebi into this very special IPA. It's got an enormous amount of fragrant, exotic aroma.

We want to be the brand that bridges cultures and connects people.
Why we carry them
Dokkaebier is an East Bay brewery with flavors you will not find anywhere else. We like the kimchi sour with Korean fried chicken or anything spicy.
