Their story
Bertrand Bachelet is the fourth generation of his family to make wine in Burgundy. He took over the estate from his father, Jean-Louis, in 2011.
The domaine is based in Dezize-lès-Maranges, one of the three villages of the Maranges appellation, which supplies most of its wine. Bertrand farms about 13 hectares stretching from Maranges up to Gevrey-Chambertin, with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from appellations including Maranges, Santenay, Saint-Aubin, Meursault, and Chassagne-Montrachet.
How it's made
All vineyard work, from pruning to harvest, is done by hand, with close attention to soil health. In the cellar, vinification is traditional with little intervention so each site can show through.
Why we carry them
Maranges is one of Burgundy's quieter corners, and Bachelet shows how good it can be. We like these wines for anyone who wants real Burgundy character without the big-name markup.
