Their story
Domaine Comte Abbatucci is run by Jean-Charles Abbatucci, whose family has made wine in Corsica for more than a century and who descends from General Jean-Charles Abbatucci, for whom one of the estate's wines is named. The estate sits in the Taravo Valley in the south of the island.
In the 1960s his father, Antoine, watched Corsica's native grapes being replaced by international varieties. He planted a one-hectare collection of 18 Corsican varieties to save them. Jean-Charles took over in 2000, and the estate now makes wine from 14 of those grapes.
How it's made
Jean-Charles converted the estate to biodynamic farming when he took over in 2000. About 18 hectares of vines grow on granite slopes among olive trees and wild scrub, with sheep and cattle grazing the vineyards in winter.
Why we carry them
Abbatucci is one of the best ways to taste what Corsica's native grapes can do. We like their reds for anyone who enjoys a wine that tastes of somewhere specific.
