Their story
Domaine Daulny is run by Étienne Daulny in Verdigny, one of the wine villages of Sancerre in the eastern Loire Valley.
The family owns about 15 hectares split into roughly 50 plots on clay and flint, Portlandian, and Kimmeridgian limestone soils. Its best-known wine, Le Clos de Chaudenay, comes from a warm, southwest-facing slope just above the village, where the vines average about 40 years old.
How it's made
Everything is harvested by hand. Most of the wine is made in temperature-controlled steel tanks without malolactic fermentation to keep it fresh, while a small share, including part of the Clos de Chaudenay, ages in large, well-used oak.
Why we carry them
Daulny makes the kind of Sancerre we reach for again and again, bright and precise. We like the Clos de Chaudenay with goat cheese.
