Domaine De La Touraize

An eighth-generation Arbois family making organic, unfiltered Jura wines.

Arbois, Jura

Their story

André-Jean and Héléana Morin farm 9 hectares at the entrance to Arbois, in the Jura. The family has grown grapes here for eight generations; an ancestor born in 1704 is recorded as a vigneron.

André-Jean joined his father in 1985. For years the grapes went to the local cooperative, but in 2009 he left to make wine under the family's own label, building a winery, then a cellar in 2014 and a tasting room in 2015. Héléana joined in 2016.

The domaine is named for a family-owned vineyard site, and its ammonite logo is a nod to the fossils found in the local soils.

How it's made

The vines, some about 80 years old, are certified organic with biodynamic certification underway, and no herbicides are used. Grapes are picked by hand, moved by gravity and fermented with native yeasts. Whites age 9 to 24 months on their lees in foudre or old barrels, reds in foudre, tank or amphora, and everything is bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur.

Why we carry them

Touraize is a friendly way into the Jura, with Chardonnay, Savagnin and Pinot Noir that taste of place without being hard to love.
