Domaine Lecomte

Two brothers making Quincy Sauvignon Blanc and Châteaumeillant reds.

Their story

Brothers Bruno and Nicolas Lecomte run Domaine Lecomte, a family estate with roots in Avord, just north of Bourges in the center of France.

They farm 13 hectares: 10 in Quincy, a small Sauvignon Blanc appellation west of Sancerre country, and 3 in Châteaumeillant.

How it's made

The Quincy vineyards are planted entirely to Sauvignon Blanc at 6,500 vines per hectare, and the oldest vines, over 50 years old, go into the Vieilles Vignes and Génération I cuvées. The brothers follow viticulture raisonnée, working the soil mechanically instead of using herbicides. In Châteaumeillant they grow Gamay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, mostly blended into a single red.

Why we carry them

Quincy is a lesser-known neighbor of Sancerre, and we think the Lecomtes' Sauvignon Blanc makes a strong case for it.
