Their story
Elk Cove Vineyards sits in the Coast Range foothills near Gaston, Oregon. Pat and Joe Campbell founded it in 1974, planting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that spring on thin, sloping soils, and it became the first winery in what is now the Yamhill-Carlton appellation. Pat and Joe shared the winemaking as equal partners, and early labels named them both.
The Campbells turned an old barn into their winery and made their first wine in 1977. Their son Adam, a fifth-generation Oregon farmer, became winemaker in 1995, making Elk Cove one of the first multi-generation wineries in the Northwest. Joe Campbell died in June 2026 at 87, and the winery remains family owned.
How it's made
All wines come from the family's own estate vineyards, now six sites and about 380 planted acres in the Willamette Valley. Adam Campbell oversees the farming and makes the wines by hand in a cool-climate style.
My dad, he always approached the business as a partnership, and he and my mom were equal partners.
Why we carry them
We think Elk Cove is a great way to taste Oregon's early winemaking history in a glass. Their Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is a reliable dinner-table bottle.
