Their story

Equilibrium Brewery is the project of Peter Oates and Ricardo Petroni, two MIT graduates and working scientists based in Middletown, New York. Petroni had been homebrewing for about twenty years, and he nudged Oates to start after their frequent beer trips to Vermont.

They founded the brewery in 2015 and began selling beer in 2016. Their hazy and double IPAs quickly built a devoted following, and the brewery has since added a serious sour program alongside its hoppy beers.

How it's made

The founders approach brewing like an experiment, working backward from the finished beer to get big hop aroma without harsh bitterness. They use single-hop beers to isolate variables and refine existing recipes rather than starting over each batch. Oates even built his own automated pilot system for testing ideas.

We brew what we want to drink.

Why we carry them

If you love a soft, juicy IPA, Equilibrium is one to seek out. We like that every can reflects two scientists who sweat the details.
