Their story
Escudo Real is a Vinho Verde from Quinta da Lixa, an estate owned and run by the Meireles family in the town of Vila da Lixa in northern Portugal. The family started in the mid-1980s selling wine from the cellar door, known locally simply as "that Lixa wine."
Over time they bought vineyard land, and a new winery in the 1990s let them move from bulk sales to bottling under their own label. In the early 2000s they brought in local enologist Carlos Teixeira, who still leads the winemaking.
How it's made
Grapes come largely from the family's own estate vineyards in the Vinho Verde region. Winemaking is led by Carlos Teixeira, with a focus on fresh, classic styles bottled young.
