Their story
The Camarena family has made tequila in the highlands of Jalisco for six generations, and its roots in Arandas go back to the town's founding. The family started as agave growers, selling to local distillers for decades before bottling its own tequila in 1938.
Familia Camarena is the family's own label, with Mauricio Camarena overseeing the agave fields and Miguel Cedeno Cruz serving as master distiller. The brand launched in the U.S. with a Silver and a Reposado and has since won medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
How it's made
Blue agave is grown in the red volcanic soil of the Los Altos highlands. The pinas are slow roasted in ovens, milled, fermented and distilled in small batches in pot stills, and bottles are filled and labeled by hand.
Why we carry them
We like Familia Camarena as an honest, approachable highland tequila from a family with deep agave roots. The Reposado is an easy pick for sipping or margaritas.
