Their story
Nittardi sits in Castellina in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone, with a stone house and medieval tower among vineyards and olive groves. Michelangelo is said to have been among its past owners and to have carried its wine as a gift to the Pope.
In 1981 the estate was bought by Peter Femfert, a German art dealer, and Stefania Canali from Venice, who found the buildings in ruins and restored them. They brought their gallery life with them: each year the label of Casanuova di Nittardi Chianti Classico is designed by an artist, with contributors including Gunter Grass, Yoko Ono and Dario Fo.
How it's made
Casanuova di Nittardi is made almost entirely from Sangiovese with a little Canaiolo, and aged in French oak before release. The estate grows its grapes in the hills around Castellina.
Why we carry them
We like Nittardi for classic, cherry-scented Chianti Classico in a bottle that doubles as a small work of art. A natural gift for wine and art lovers.
