Their story

Fentimans traces back to 1905, when Thomas Fentiman, an iron puddler from Cleckheaton in Yorkshire, lent money to a man who put up a ginger beer recipe as security. The loan was never repaid, the recipe became his, and he sold his ginger beer door to door by horse and cart.

More than a century later the company is still in the family. It is owned by Thomas's great-grandson, Eldon Robson, and is based in Northumberland. The range now covers ginger beer, tonic waters, rose lemonade and other botanical sodas.

How it's made

Fentimans calls its method botanical brewing: plant ingredients such as root ginger are brewed and fermented to build flavor before the drinks are bottled. The approach follows the family's original recipe tradition.

Why we carry them

We like Fentimans for grown-up sodas with real bite. The ginger beer is a favorite for Moscow Mules or on its own over ice.
