- Truckee, California
Their story
FiftyFifty is the work of Andy and Alicia Barr, a married pair of engineers who left jobs at Hewlett-Packard to open a brewery and restaurant in downtown Truckee, in the Sierra Nevada near Lake Tahoe. Founding brewer Todd Ashman helped shape the beer that would make their name.
That beer is Eclipse, a series of imperial stouts released each year to a loyal following. In 2018 the brewery won three medals at the Great American Beer Festival along with Brewery Group of the Year, a big honor for a mountain-town operation.
How it's made
Eclipse starts from the brewery's Totality Imperial Stout. Some batches rest for months in whiskey and bourbon barrels, and others are finished with additions like coconut, maple, mocha or salted caramel.
What you're doing for your life and your career shouldn't just be about a paycheck.
Why we carry them
Eclipse is a stout worth sharing slowly on a cold night. We like comparing a couple of barrel versions side by side.
