Flying Embers

Zero-sugar hard kombucha born from a close call in the Thomas Fire.

Founded by
Bill Moses, Beryl Jacobson
Based in
Ventura, California

Their story

Flying Embers comes from Bill Moses, who earlier founded the kombucha brand KeVita and Casa Barranca winery in Ojai, and co-founder Beryl Jacobson. The name traces to the 2017 Thomas Fire, when Moses stayed to defend his property and watched a shower of embers pass as the wind shifted at the last moment.

The brand started in Ventura County bars and markets and gave a share of profits to fire-related causes. In 2024 JuneShine acquired the Flying Embers brand in an all-stock deal, with Moses joining JuneShine's board.

How it's made

Flying Embers is fermented from a mother culture blended from four home-brewed kombucha cultures. The drinks contain zero sugar and are made with adaptogenic herbs and botanicals.

Why we carry them

Flying Embers is a light, tart option for anyone who wants something other than beer or wine. It is easy to share at a backyard dinner.
