Their story

Fort George Brewery sits on Duane Street in Astoria, Oregon, the old port town where the Columbia River meets the Pacific. Jack Harris and Chris Nemlowill opened it in 2007 in a building put up in 1924 as Lovell Auto Co., a repair shop and showroom that had been left empty and run down.

Friends, family and local artists helped rebuild it with salvaged materials, and the first beers came off a small 8.5-barrel system that had been driven across the country from the East Coast. In 2009 the founders bought the neighboring Lovell Building, and later added a pizzeria and a larger waterfront production brewery in a former can factory.

In 2024 the brewery finished a large rooftop solar array that now supplies most of its power.

How it's made

Fort George is best known for its IPAs. A small research brewery in the Lovell space uses short, wide tanks designed to give the beer more contact with hops, and the main production brewery on the waterfront handles the canned beers that travel beyond Astoria.

Why we carry them

If you like a juicy, hop-heavy IPA, Fort George is a reliable stop on the West Coast map. It is a small-town brewery that has grown without losing its character.
