Their story
Four Pillars was started in 2013 by three friends, Cameron Mackenzie, Stuart Gregor and Matt Jones, in the Yarra Valley outside Melbourne. The distillery and its Tuck Shop sit in the town of Healesville, and the team also runs a small lab in Sydney's Surry Hills.
Its first release, Rare Dry Gin, set out to taste distinctly Australian, and the range has grown from there. In 2019 the brewing and drinks group Lion took a half stake in the business. Four Pillars was named International Gin Producer of the Year by the IWSC in 2019, 2020 and 2023.
How it's made
The gins lean on local ingredients: the Olive Leaf Gin uses olive leaf and oil, and the Green Apple & Rhubarb draws on Yarra Valley apples. Bloody Shiraz is made by steeping whole local Shiraz grapes in high-strength gin for eight weeks before pressing, which gives it a deep purple color.
Why we carry them
Bloody Shiraz is one of the most fun bottles on our shelf, great with tonic or in a spritz. Rare Dry is a bright, citrusy everyday gin.
