Their story

Foursquare sits in Four Roads, in the parish of Saint Philip on Barbados, on the grounds of an old sugar factory. The Seale family has been in rum since 1926, when Reginald Leon Seale set up R.L. Seale & Co. as a merchant blending and bottling rum bought from others.

His grandson David Seale built the distillery in 1995, and it began operating in 1996. Today David's son Richard Seale runs it as a fourth-generation rum maker and is one of the loudest voices for honest, unsweetened Barbados rum. The distillery has been named Rum Producer of the Year by the IWSC in 2021 and 2024.

How it's made

Foursquare runs two double-retort copper pot stills alongside a twin-column Coffey still, and blends the two styles in the Barbadian way. The rums are aged without added sugar, coloring or flavoring. Brands include R.L. Seale, Doorly's, Old Brigand and the Exceptional Cask Selection series.

Why we carry them

If you think rum is too sweet, Foursquare will change your mind. These are dry, layered rums that drink like a good whisky.
