Their story
Fattoria di Piazzano is the Bettarini family's estate in the rolling hills just south of Empoli, in the Tuscan countryside between Florence and Pisa. It began in 1948, when Otello Bettarini, a manufacturer from nearby Prato, was drawn to the landscape and settled here.
The family has farmed it ever since, and today siblings Rolando and Ilaria Bettarini run the estate. The property sits across a geological fault, so its vineyards cover a patchwork of different soils.
How it's made
The Bettarinis farm sustainably and vinify each vineyard plot on its own, then blend only the best lots into their wines and sell off the rest. The range includes Chianti, a traditional straw-wrapped fiasco, a Sangiovese-based Toscana IGT and Vin Santo.
Why we carry them
Piazzano makes the kind of honest, food-loving Chianti we want on the table with pizza or a plate of salumi. The fiasco bottle is a fun one for a dinner party.
