Their story
Bruce and Abbie Leeson were selling ginger wholesale, sourced from Australia and Southeast Asia, when they noticed nobody had built a brand around the root. In 1997 they launched The Ginger People to fill that gap.
The company is based in Marina, on the Monterey Bay, where it moved in 2007. The couple still lead it from nearby Carmel. Gin Gins candies and chews are the best-known line, joined over the years by ginger juices, sauces, pickled ginger, shots and a growing range of turmeric products.
How it's made
The company works directly with farmers and processors in Fiji and Indonesia, with additional suppliers in China and Peru. Products are made on production lines in the United States and Canada.
We didn't have a brand, and we saw the opportunity to develop one – there was no ginger brand out there,
Why we carry them
Gin Gins are a pantry staple for good reason. We keep the chews and the ginger juice on hand for baking, cocktails and settling in after a big meal.
