Their story

GlenDronach sits in a quiet valley near Forgue, outside Huntly in Aberdeenshire, beside the Dronac Burn that supplies its water. James Allardes founded it in 1826, and its whisky has been made on the same site for nearly two centuries.

It has changed hands many times. Teacher's expanded it in 1960, it later passed to Allied Domecq, and it was mothballed from 1996 to 2002. Pernod Ricard's Chivas Brothers sold it to the BenRiach Distillery Company in 2008, and in 2016 it was acquired by Brown-Forman, its current owner.

How it's made

The distillery runs two wash stills and two spirit stills and draws water from the burn on its grounds. Its core whiskies are matured mainly in Spanish sherry casks, especially Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez, which give the house style its dark fruit and depth.

Why we carry them

For anyone who loves a sherried Scotch, GlenDronach is a benchmark. We reach for it after dinner when we want something rich and slow to sip.
