Their story

William Grant built Glenfiddich with his family in 1886 in Dufftown, in the glen of the River Fiddich, a Gaelic name meaning valley of the deer. The first spirit ran from the stills on Christmas Day 1887.

The distillery is still owned by William Grant & Sons and run by the founder's descendants. In 1963 it began marketing its whisky as a single malt in the United States at a time when blends ruled, a move that helped create the modern single malt category, and it introduced its familiar triangular bottle in 1956.

How it's made

Water from the nearby Robbie Dhu spring is used at the distillery. The spirit is made in dozens of small copper pot stills and aged in a mix of American bourbon, Spanish sherry and other casks, with bottling done on site and at the company's plant in Bellshill.

Why we carry them

Glenfiddich is where a lot of people start with single malt, and the older expressions reward coming back. We like it as an easy introduction to Speyside.
