Their story

Grand Mayan is a tequila brand based in Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco. What sets it apart on the shelf is the bottle: each ceramic decanter is handmade, numbered, and painted by artists in Mexico City, so no two look quite alike.

The range runs from an unaged silver through a reposado and an extra aged añejo to the Ultra Aged limited release. In the United States the brand is imported by M.S. Walker as part of its National Spirits portfolio.

How it's made

Blue agave from the central highlands of Jalisco is slow-cooked in brick and stone ovens, given a long fermentation, and distilled in copper pot stills. The Ultra Aged release spends at least five years resting in American oak and French ex-cognac barrels, while the reposado sees six to eight months in American and French oak.

Why we carry them

We like Grand Mayan as a gift bottle that holds up once it is open: the ceramic is a keepsake, and the long-aged añejo is a slow sipper.
