Beer and Cider · Brooklyn, New York
Grimm Artisanal Ales
A Brooklyn brewery run by two artists, known for hazy IPAs and fruited sours.
- Founded by
- Joe Grimm, Lauren Carter Grimm
- Based in
- Brooklyn, New York
Their story
Grimm is run by Joe Grimm, a former experimental musician, and Lauren Carter Grimm, a former sculptor and conceptual artist. They see brewing as an extension of their creative work, and it shows in the beer and the label art.
For years the couple brewed as nomads, borrowing space at other breweries and building a devoted following. In 2018 they opened their own brewery and taproom in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, complete with a rooftop bar, and later added a tavern in Prospect Heights. Grimm has been named New York State Brewery of the Year several times.
How it's made
Grimm ferments with a house yeast it has carried through many generations and pairs historical methods with current brewing research. The range covers aromatic hazy IPAs, dry-hopped sour ales, and the Pop! series of dessert-style sours, along with experiments in spontaneous fermentation and whole local fruit.
Why we carry them
Grimm cans are a good place to start for anyone curious about New York's beer scene: inventive, polished, and different from batch to batch.
