Their story
This bottle comes from Grosjean, a family winery in Quart, in Italy's Aosta Valley. The Grosjean family has grown vines there since the early 1600s, and in the 1960s grandfather Dauphin committed the family fully to winemaking. Today the third generation, Hervé, Didier, Simon, and Marco, runs the estate.
In 2011 Grosjean became the first Aosta Valley winery to fully convert to organic farming. Its vineyards climb steep, terraced slopes and are worked by hand, planted with eleven native grapes such as Petite Arvine and Fumin alongside Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Chardonnay.
How it's made
Montmary is a traditional-method Extra Brut rosé led by Pinot Noir, grown at 800 to 900 meters on sandy glacial soils. It ages 18 months on the lees before release, and the low dosage keeps it dry and crisp.
Why we carry them
If you like grower Champagne, this mountain sparkler is worth a look: dry, bright, and from a corner of Italy few people know.
