Their story
Haarmeyer Wine Cellars is Craig Haarmeyer's small winery in West Sacramento, set in an old warehouse that once housed Harbor Winery. Haarmeyer worked harvests there for Harbor's founder, Charles Myers, in the 1990s. Today his wife, Kelly, and their children, Alex and Marian, pitch in as cellar hands.
The winery makes no more than about 3,000 cases a year. Chenin Blanc is Haarmeyer's great love, and he also works with less common grapes from Lodi growers, such as Blaufränkisch and an Austrian-style field blend.
How it's made
Haarmeyer sources from Delta and Lodi vineyards, including old Chenin Blanc vines in the Borden Ranch area. He picks early for bright acidity and modest alcohol, ferments with native yeasts, and ages some wines in neutral oak.
Why we carry them
