Their story
Hercules Mulligan Rum & Rye is the work of three partners: spirits veteran Steve Luttmann, Flaviar co-founder Grisa Soba and master distiller Mario Mazza of New York's Five & 20 Distilling.
The brand takes its name from Hercules Mulligan, an Irish immigrant tailor in New York who spied for the American side during the Revolution. It launched in late 2019 through the Flaviar spirits club, built a following there and with a crowdfunding raise, and moved into stores starting in New York in 2022. A straight rye has since joined the lineup.
How it's made
The spirit blends equal parts aged Caribbean rum and American rye whiskey. Fresh organic ginger root is steeped in the blend, and a splash of bitters is added before bottling at 43% ABV. It is built to work like a ready-made Old Fashioned base.

Why we carry them
We like this bottle for anyone who wants a good cocktail without much work. Pour it over a big ice cube with an orange twist and you are most of the way there.
