Their story
Home Base Spirits was founded by Ali and Sam Blatteis, twin sisters who grew up in Oakland. Ali got into whiskey first, and after feeling like an outsider in a mostly male whiskey club, she started a club for women. Sam, who had been working in agriculture on the East Coast, joined in.
After Sam visited a farm distillery, the two decided to combine their interests. They set up headquarters in Berkeley in 2015 and launched with what they call a California-style bourbon, later adding a single malt and other whiskeys.
How it's made
Home Base contracts with distillers to make its spirit, then handles aging, blending and bottling itself. Sam sources grain from farmers who grow sustainably and tests it before it goes to the still.
Our featured pick
Bourbon (750ML)
$65.00
A locally made bourbon is a balanced and delicate grain-forward whiskey made with sustainably grown corn, rye and lots of malted barley.
Why we carry them
We like supporting a whiskey made by two East Bay sisters. It is a friendly bottle for anyone just getting into bourbon.
