Their story
Hotaling & Co is a San Francisco distillery with deep roots in the city. It began in 1993 as Anchor Distilling Company, started by Fritz Maytag, the same person who revived Anchor Brewing and helped spark American craft beer.
When Sapporo bought Anchor Brewing in 2017, the distilling side went its own way, and in 2018 it took the name Hotaling & Co. The name honors A.P. Hotaling, a Gold Rush-era liquor merchant whose San Francisco whiskey warehouse famously survived the 1906 earthquake. The company still makes its spirits in the city, near the Bay, and also imports spirits from other producers.
How it's made
The flagship spirits are Old Potrero rye whiskey, pot-distilled and first released in the 1990s, and Junipero gin. Both are distilled in San Francisco under a small team led by a master distiller.
These products are San Francisco products and should be made in San Francisco.
Why we carry them
We are proud to carry a hometown distillery with this much history. Try Junipero in a martini or Old Potrero in a Manhattan.
