Their story
Diano d'Alba is a hilltop village just north of Barolo, and the Olivero family has worked vines there for four generations. Paolo Olivero studied winemaking and spent time at another local estate before coming home and, in 1995, starting to bottle the family's wine under the Il Palazzotto name.
The estate is small, about 5 hectares of vines alongside 6 hectares of hazelnut trees, and makes roughly 1,250 cases a year. Dolcetto is the focus, from two hillside sites: Sorì Cristina on limestone and Sorì Santa Lucia on chalky marl. Small amounts of Barbera, Nebbiolo and Roero Arneis round things out.
How it's made
Paolo farms sustainably, picks by hand and thins the crop so bunches do not touch. The wines ferment on native yeasts in stainless steel for about a week, rest in steel until late summer after the vintage, then spend a few months in bottle. They are bottled without fining or filtering.
Why we carry them
This is the kind of Dolcetto we like on the table any night of the week: bright, generous and easy with food. A good way to taste the Langhe without Barolo prices.
