Their story
Iruai is the project of Chad and Michelle Westbrook Hinds, who started it in 2013 in Etna, a small town in Siskiyou County near the Oregon border. It is mountain country, and the wines are made with that in mind.
The couple works with high-elevation vineyards across Northern California and Southern Oregon, including Four Diamonds Vineyard in the Applegate Valley. Their grapes read like a tour of the Alps and the Jura: Savagnin, Trousseau, Gamay, Mondeuse, Grüner Veltliner and Blaufränkisch, along with Chenin Blanc and Pinot Noir.
How it's made
Iruai sources fruit from cool, high-altitude sites where mountain weather shapes the grapes. The range covers whites, reds, rosé and sparkling wines, often from varieties rarely planted in the region.
Why we carry them
If you enjoy Jura or Savoie wines, Iruai is worth a look closer to home. These are thoughtful bottles from a corner of California few people think of for wine.
