Their story
Isastegi is a family cider house in the hills around Tolosa, in the Basque Country outside San Sebastián. Cider has been made on the Isastegi farm since the 17th century, with methods handed down through the generations.
The house is a founding member of the Gorenak society and of Euskal Sagardoa, the Basque cider appellation, both of which work to protect traditional Basque cider. It has also earned organic certification from the Basque organic council.
How it's made
Isastegi uses native Basque apple varieties grown organically within about 15 kilometers of the cider house. The cider is made with methods passed down on the farm, and no sulfites are added at any stage.
Why we carry them
This is the real taste of a Basque sagardotegi: dry, tart and a little wild. Pour it from a height to wake it up, the way they do in Gipuzkoa.
