Their story

Raasay is a small island in the Inner Hebrides, between Skye and the Scottish mainland. Bill Dobbie and Alasdair Day formed R&B Distillers in 2014 and set about building a distillery on the site of the old Borodale House hotel on the island's southwest side.

It began distilling in September 2017, the first legal distillery on the island. While the spirit aged, the team released the While We Wait whiskies, then launched Isle of Raasay Gin in 2019. The first single malt distilled on Raasay arrived in September 2020.

How it's made

The distillery uses a pair of copper pot stills and matures its whisky on site in a range of oak casks. Water comes from the Tobar na Ba Bàine well, filtered through the island's volcanic and sandstone rock. The gin uses ten botanicals, including rhubarb root and cubeb pepper.

Why we carry them

Raasay is one of the more exciting young Scotch distilleries, and the single malt already shows real character. Try it next to an older island malt.
