Their story
Giuseppe Gallo, a longtime figure in the Italian drinks trade, launched Italicus in 2016 to bring back rosolio, a style of aperitivo once poured at Italy's royal courts. It reached American bars in 2017 and won Best New Spirit at Tales of the Cocktail that year.
The liqueur is made at a family-owned distillery near Turin and is now sold in more than 40 countries. Its aquamarine bottle is meant to call to mind the Blue Grotto on Capri, and the brand has supported replanting bergamot trees along the Calabrian coast.
How it's made
Cold-pressed bergamot from Calabria leads, joined by Sicilian cedro lemon. A separate maceration of Roman chamomile, lavender, gentian, lemon balm and yellow roses from northern Italy rounds out the blend.
Why we carry them
Italicus with prosecco or soda is one of our favorite easy aperitivos. The bergamot is floral and bright without being sweet.
