Their story
J.J. Pfister is a family business run by Kevin and Gail Keck and their son Brian, the master distiller. Every member of the founding team, including the other distillers, studied at UC Davis, and Brian holds a master's in viticulture and enology.
The family began making vodka in 2016 in a rented space in Livermore, inspired by a friend who grew organic potatoes in Oregon. They later opened their own distillery, tasting room and restaurant on the Sacramento and Rancho Cordova line, and they are the official distiller of UC Davis Athletics.
How it's made
The team leans on fermentation science and sensory training from their winemaking studies. The range spans vodka, gin, rum, brandy and whiskey, including a bourbon made from blue and yellow corn and an American single malt, all aged in oak.
