Jack Daniel's

Charcoal-mellowed Tennessee whiskey from Lynchburg.

Founded by
Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel
Based in
Lynchburg, Tennessee

Their story

Jack Daniel learned to make whiskey in Lynchburg, Tennessee, from Nathan "Nearest" Green, an enslaved man who was master distiller for Dan Call. Green taught him the Lincoln County Process and served as the distillery's first master distiller. The label says the distillery was established in 1866, while registration records point to 1875.

The Brown-Forman company bought Jack Daniel's in 1956. The whiskey is still made in Lynchburg, a small town in Moore County.

How it's made

The mash is 80% corn, 12% rye and 8% malted barley, distilled in copper stills with water from a limestone cave spring. Before aging, the new spirit drips through 10-foot stacks of sugar maple charcoal, a step the distillery calls mellowing.

Why we carry them

Jack Daniel's is a classic for a reason. Try the single barrel bottlings to see how much depth the brand has.
