Their story
Jinro was founded in Korea in 1924 and has become the name most people outside Korea connect with soju. Today it is part of HiteJinro, formed after the brewer Hite acquired Jinro in the mid-2000s, with headquarters in Seoul's Gangnam district.
In 1998 the company launched Chamisul, a smoother, lighter soju whose name means "real dew." Jinro has been ranked the top-selling spirit brand in the world by volume, selling tens of millions of cases a year.
How it's made
Soju is a clear spirit distilled from grains such as rice and barley, fermented with the help of koji. Chamisul is filtered four times, including through bamboo charcoal, for a clean and mild taste.
Why we carry them
We like Jinro chilled with Korean barbecue or mixed into a simple soju cocktail. The fruit-flavored versions are an easy introduction.
