Their story
John Emerald Distilling Company is a father-and-son business in Opelika, Alabama, run by John Sharp and his son Jimmy. They opened in 2013 and named the distillery after John's father, John Emerald Sharp.
In 2015 the distillery released what was billed as the first legal whiskey made in Alabama in about 100 years. The lineup has since grown to include an Alabama single malt, gin, rum and vodka.
How it's made
Everything is made in small batches with locally sourced ingredients, and the whiskeys carry a light smoky note. Bottles marked with an animal on the label are what the family calls ground-to-glass, going straight from farm to bottle.
Why we carry them
We like finding whiskey from places you would not expect, and John's Alabama Single Malt is a fun one to share with curious friends.
