Their story

Kameya Foods is based in Mishima, in Japan's Shizuoka Prefecture. The company started in 1947 as a maker of Japanese pickles and over the decades turned its attention to wasabi.

In 2012 Kameya began farming so it could grow its own produce. Its wasabi now comes from fields at the edge of Mt. Amagi, and the company draws on local ingredients such as vegetables from the foot of Mt. Hakone and spring water from the Kakita River, which is fed by Mt. Fuji groundwater.

How it's made

Kameya grows wasabi on its own farm and turns it into products like grated wasabi, wasabi salt, wasabi furikake and wasabi chazuke. The grated wasabi needs refrigeration once opened.

Why we carry them

We like Kameya for wasabi with real heat and a fresh, green flavor. The wasabi salt is an easy upgrade for steak or roasted vegetables.
